MEMORY LOOPS, by FLOWERS

a0620496552_10

I have recently fallen in love with this album from FLOWERS, brought to us by Dark Pursuits of Washington D.C.

MEMORY LOOPS is a 12 track drone/ambient project with plenty of noise and personality. The compositions range from the subtle and relaxing to pure sonic shredding, and it all works wonderfully together. One after one, FLOWERS constructs unique atmospheres with his exploration of sound. Lo-Fi crackles accompany deep vibrant tones to create a delicious dichotomy that leaves me breathless and wanting for more. The project is available to stream and download via the labels bandcamp.

The VHS Chronicles, by Panaphonix

a3204753521_10

The VHS Chronicles by Panaphonix is a electronic freak-fest that was released towards the end of July by Welcome Beauty Sounds. This 10 track project showcases some serious weirdness under an umbrella of vapor tone. Heavy on the rhythms, this album is less about ambience as it is about wonked out future-funk beats. Panaphonix does a great job of keeping the listener interested from the beginning to the end, which for any artist is a job well done! You can stream or donate to download the album via Bandcamp.

POLYCHROMATIC COMPILER, by VAPERROR

a1324811117_10

Londons Dream Catalogue is responsible for yet another vaporwave masterpiece. This lengthy project from Vaperror is drenched in nostalgia and retro vibes. While this is a fairly traditional take on vaporwave, this is an incredibly listenable album, often times finding footing in addictive groves and melody structures. There is plenty of variety in the tracks as well, everything from future funk to plunderphonic noise-mash. The album is available to download at your chosen price, as well as a limited edition cassette tape for purchase!

Alienation, by The Electric Nature

a2078819010_10

Georgia’s own “The Electric Nature”, conceived and fronted by Michael Potter, have weaved together this psychedelic masterwork over the course of 2 years! Both dense and free, Alienation is a unique listen for sure. The band has a full roster for this album with lots of folks helping out, providing guitars, horns and synths. The result is an impressively bold collection of experimental jams that I can only assume would be even more fulfilling to hear in a live situation. Highly recommended listen, and purchase the album one way or another!!! ( The digital download includes a bonus 20 minute track, and Illuminated Paths records are offering a limited edition Cassette tape of this release!)

Favorite Track: 6. Alienation II/Outro

Recorded in various places and on various devices in Athens and Carrollton, GA between 2013 and 2015, except track 3 – half of which was recorded in 2003.

Music For A Rainy Season, by Gus Till & Supercozi

a3652845395_10

Section Records brings us this wonderful new ambient album, full of unique instrumentation and long-form progression. Music for a Rainy Season combines relaxing and blissful atmospheres with both electronic and acoustic sounds. A fantastic listen for fans of Windham Hill Records, as the overall vibe seems very derivative of that era in new-age ambience.

Favorite Track: 2. Music For A Rainy Season

Section’s first ever ambient album release is an exquisite production by trance / chillout legends Gus Till and Supercozi. Effortlessly combining sublime etherial ambience with traditional western and southeast Asian instrumentation, this is a complete listening journey that oozes class and wellbeing, paradoxically finding comfort and warmth in its rain-soaked inspiration.

De Retour, by Ujjaya

Ujjaya-Cover

Recently had this one recommended to the blog, very nice psychedelic ambience! Exotic and relaxing, this french producers brings us a liberating little listen with this album. It is available via the website for free download as well!

Favorite Track: 3. Escale Á Odawara

Towards the end of the year Spheredelic presents the release of Ujjaya´s album „ De-Retour“.

Behind the project name Ujjaya is the Paris (France) based artist Randriambololona for whom ambient music is not a just musical sytle but a spiritual search. Thus he undertook several trips to India, to study with a guru, develop his technique and musical knowledge, and collect exotic instruments.

His music shows a deep understanding of his musical heroes: Steve Roach, Brian Eno and Jorge Reyes. „De-Retour“ is pure meditation leading  your body and mind into a deep state of awareness.

Diamond Series 006

a1143547427_10

As I am sure many of you know by now, I am a big fan of Ghost Diamonds “Diamond Series”, a collection of mini-releases, each consisting of two tracks by different artists. This formula is quick, refreshing, and they always manage to bring some interesting sounds to the table. This round is no different! Diamond Series 006 is soaked in retro nostalgia, with the second track diving head first into a 50’s Righteous Brothers cover. This was a pleasure to listen to quite a few times, I encourage you to give it a run and check out the rest of the Diamond Series while you’re at it!

Be Whole, by Sound Awakener

a1211301824_10

Another one here from Sound Awakener, Be Whole is a 3 track project of harsh noise and wave experiments. These fluttering drones lead you here and there, and some points taking on an animal-like quality, other times more comparable to the sounds of the environment. It breathes in and out, hissing and sputtering its way from start to finish. Highly recommended for Noise fans, gentle enough for Ambient minds.

Favorite Track: 2. Chapter II

Cosmos, by SoulSonic

a3116993684_10

SoulSonic has created for us a pure beautiful hybrid album of dub techno ambience. Each track has a unique flavor ranging from chilled out drum-driven grooves to longform sonic swells. A pleasure from start to finish, I cannot recommend this record enough…

The Forest Diaries, by Dag Rosenqvist

a1551270776_10

Another slice of Eilean greatness, this time Dag Rosenqvist presents us with some hyper-relaxed modern classical goodness. Floating around between drones and fog, The Forest Diaries remains emotional and focused over long 10 tracks. Lots of work here featuring piano as well as other acoustic instrumentation. The entire release is saturated in a subtle, lonely feeling, not in a bad way, but more of a “lonely for a day” sorta way. Whether it makes you relax or reminisce, this is one highly recommended body of work.
