Australian producer M L D V R returns to us with the follow-up to Four Months EP with part II of III – Thirteen Years. This round we find M L D V R further embracing longform composition, with each of the tracks hovering around 10 minutes, giving plenty of time for sonic exploration. Starting off with an acid house banger that sets the mood of a strange smoke filled warehouse, onto a spooky car ride through the deserted backroads, and ending with a 2am swim in a pixelated cyber lake. Enjoying the work of this producer more and more, extremely excited to hear what is in store for the final chapter – and of course still crossing my fingers for Tapes to be released eventually…

Untitled Album, by Sad Man
Experimental Electronic + Jazz musician SAD MAN presents us with an epic new release UNTITLED ALBUM, which dropped back at the beginning of May. This beefy 21 track epic is a true experiment in abstract electronics, with a heavy lean towards resonant glitches and deconstructed club sounds.
At times UNTITLED ALBUM steers into quite adventurous territories, adopting flavors from world music, IDM, glitch hop and more to create his own unique electronic flavor. The songs themselves are hearty meals, rarely dipping below 3 minutes in length, leaving plenty of time to explore sonic ideas and freely wander the landscape of sound.
SAD MAN music seems to lean heavily towards dissonant experimentation, with rhythms propelling the vibe forward at a steady tempo. Though the sounds used may not be stranger to club atmosphere, it is the way all the sounds are broken down – stripped to their essence, and repurposed in a way to tell an entirely different story. Grooves appear as quickly as they disappear – percussion being somewhat nebulous, sometimes held by some boom bap drums, other times being completely phased into crushed synths and chopped waveforms. A track can fly from footwork madness to lofi house vibes in a matter of moments, and yet it all works quite well, with SAD MAN never losing footing within each track.
On the whole, UNTITLED ALBUM is a damn good work of art. It’s a rewarding listen, the kind you enjoy time and time again, with and without headphones – at home, in the car, etc. Take it with you in life and see how it morphs the landscape around you – a premium vibe augmentation.
Really strong recommendation on this one – the best word I can use to describe the complete project is Therapeutic. Something about the nature of the sounds, the mystery of where each track leads, it all put me very much at ease. Even the sounds themselves – I often found myself feeling quite entranced, as if my mind was being massaged through the airwaves. Perhaps you will have the same experience, and I encourage you to give it a shot!
The album is available to stream and download via the artists Bandcamp page – as well as a Compact Disc edition (which I will likely pick up in the near future!). SAD MAN has a healthy discography on his bandcamp page too, and with a remix-album set to release tomorrow, anyone who enjoys ought to be excited…
Rising Dark EP, by TwichGarden
Rising Dark is the latest release from TwichGarden and Kopoc Label of Spain. Both deep and energetic, Rising Dark EP is a great dub project that experiments with all sorts of rhythms and tempos. Each track carries a unique sense of urgency, whether its the off-kilter percussion or the constant sub-bass, making the whole EP shrouded in a mysterious energy. I pretty much enjoyed each track as much as the next, though I feel like the latter half is the strongest in terms of ideas and execution. The final track, which is also the title track of the EP, is a wonderfully deep dub-techno cut which is equally unique and traditional. This one is highly recommended, and as always is available to download via Bandcamp!

MEMORY LOOPS, by FLOWERS
I have recently fallen in love with this album from FLOWERS, brought to us by Dark Pursuits of Washington D.C.
MEMORY LOOPS is a 12 track drone/ambient project with plenty of noise and personality. The compositions range from the subtle and relaxing to pure sonic shredding, and it all works wonderfully together. One after one, FLOWERS constructs unique atmospheres with his exploration of sound. Lo-Fi crackles accompany deep vibrant tones to create a delicious dichotomy that leaves me breathless and wanting for more. The project is available to stream and download via the labels bandcamp.

Obscured By Beams Of Sorrow, by Hakobune & Dirk Serries
Here is some truly gorgeous and relaxing ambience, courtesy of a small Japanese label, White Paddy Mountain. Obscured By Beams Of Sorrow is a collaborative project washed in deep minimalism and ambient emotion. Utilizing lush electronics paired with layers of guitar, the duo manages to create a complex and profound landscape around their sound. You can download the project via Bandcamp with the option of a physical CD available for a bit extra. Highly recommended listen for relaxing evenings or laid-back mornings!

Moving EP, by VOIA // Glass Islands
VOIA brings us this new EP with Glass Islands, a brief 3 minute journey with a very deep feeling. The project gains momentum and energy as the songs progress, with the first track drifting in ambient bliss leading to the third track with near-dancefloor rhythms and sultry vocals. Though short, it is a fantastic listen for a smokey evening or cruising around the neon nights…

Aphelion, by DT-90
H y p e r c h i l l creeps into my mind when I think of a way to describe this little 4-track album. The nature of the ambient textures that sit behind the understated rhythms gives the project a unique atmosphere! The sound is impressive, and so are the emotions it supports. Highly recommended listen.
