Self Titled EP, by CTRL 94

Fresh things from Dream Museum Records – it’s the self-titled EP from CTRL 94 (Kayla Smith). A 7-track project that drifts around ambient vaporwave and synthwave styles, with a heavy lean towards a luscious feeling of nostalgia. Loads of playful synthesizers and hearty drum machine grooves keep the listeners attention throughout the project. There’s a very strong sense of melody on a lot of these tracks, lending to the feeling of nostalgia even more especially in the middle few tracks, which sound distinctly like some b-sides off a mid-80’s producers power pop demos in the absolute best way possible. Funky flavors of reminiscent of The Time and other prince protégés, memorable riffs sticking in your head throughout the day, beckoning for you to return. Download the digital or pick up a Cassette while they’re still available!

Atelier Elektro, by Ametrom

a1758081265_10.jpg

Thoughtful and melodic synthwave from Canadian producer Ametrom, Atelier Electro is an enjoyable electro-disco record overflowing with riffs and lush synth arps! The 10-tracks are peppered with just the right amount of vocals – leaving plenty of room for the instrumentals to breathe, while also giving the album some additional weight and emotion.

On the whole, it’s a very positive record – melodies tend to be uplifting in a cute and nostalgic way, with steady tempo beats driving the tracks forward. There are some retro vibes, especially with certain riffs and passages, Ametrom utilizes some interesting instruments and sounds throughout. You might hear a sudden groove with organs blasting, guitars plucking and beautiful vocals – you begin to feel like you’re listening to something straight out of the 60’s.

I was very impressed with the sounds on this one. Ametrom clearly has a firm grasp on his tools and knows how to craft an experience. If you’re a fan of cinematic sounds, synthwave or cyberpunk style, you should really enjoy this one. The songwriting is tight and the execution is satisfying.

Different Worlds Compilation, by Drift Deeper Recordings.

a1642655264_10

Different Worlds is a new Various Artists compilation, put together and released by the UK’s Drift Deeper Recordings. Gathering an international roster of producers, Different Worlds does a magnificent job of highlighting the subtle differences in Deep-House style and interpretation from around the globe.

With a healthy 13 tracks, Different Worlds is a lovely long-player with a great energy. It has introduced me to a few deep-house producers I was unaware of, so I definitely encourage giving this one a listen! You can stream the whole thing via Bandcamp or purchase a digital copy from the label!

Interstellar, by Lars Leonhard

a1163981903_10

One of my favorite Dub-Techno Producers Lars Leonhard has dropped a new project titled “Interstellar”. Not to be confused with the Hollywood blockbuster from a few years back, this “Interstellar” is deep, dark and delicious. 10 tracks of brilliantly sculpted techno tunes floating at a comfortable 120 bmp. I have always been impressed with Lars’ ability to blend darkness and melody to create unique atmospheres, and this album is no exception!

You can download the album via Bandcamp. You can also get nearly 20 of Lars’ albums bundled together at an insane discount, definitely something worth looking into if you find yourself enjoying this release.

Delicious new dubby-electronics from Etoka Records.

“Mysterious and puzzling sound structures entering unknown landscapes, surrounded by hidden paths and irregular shades.
The Artists are reflecting their inspirations by an old Japanese legend about spirits, called KODAMA, that lived in over hundred year old trees. Fascinated by wildness and beauty of nature, Pemë express their vision through their music where every composition reveals its own story.”
