Constant Repetitive Rhythm is the latest album by Moog Conspiracy – a collection of 10 tracks with a deep and dark techno flavor.
Very energetic sounds with just the right amount of sonic experimentation. Moog Conspiracy does a nice job weaving dark ambience and fuzzy textures into the club framework – resulting in a subtly cyberpunk experience.
There’s enough going on in this project to elevate it beyond a bundle of tracks for DJ placement despite its club sensibility. The close listener will be rewarded with lush synthesizers and dank atmospherics churning beneath a pulsing kick drum.
It will come as no surprise that the tracks sit in the realm of techno (which Constant Repetitive Rhythm is a pretty solid definition of!), and Moog Conspiracy uses this framework to propel the listener forward, feeding interesting sounds along the way. Tracks like Wizard and Tristesse highlight some very satisfying synths and sounds, where others like Dark Side of the Light are constructed as classic deep-techno bangers.
If you’re a fan of club sounds, deconstructed or otherwise, you will find something to enjoy in this release! You can pick up the digital version and stream now via the artists Bandcamp page.
Forward-thinking experimental electronics peppered with free-jazz – TEEN SMOKING goes all out in this mini album Moist Jazz.
Released in October 2020 – Moist Jazz is a 6 track project that is hard to pin down. Drawing from experimental corners of sound creation such as plunderphonics, harsh noise and freeform jazz. Synths flicker with lo-fi charm, poised against churning atmospherics and occasional flourishing rhythms and melodies.
The album sits at a nice, relaxed pace. Tracks like Atlantean Fight Song and Machine Wash provide a mellow, downtempo experience – breaking up the manic acid-jams. It never gets too hectic, but it is a few active steps away from ambient, despite the very atmospheric nature of the songs.
For fans of plunderphonic vaporwave and experimental ambience – you’ll find this one a unique and rewarding listen. Maybe if we’re lucky it will get a tape release! In the meantime, you can stream and download via Bandcamp.
forest is a new EP of live electronic jams by Argentinian producer Lan° – consisting of 3 energetic IDM tracks bursting with flavor!
I found myself beginning my own bedroom dance party as I played through forest several times. My interest was caught by the collage of sound being built – with clear inspirations from braindance, downtempo, chillout and acid electronics – all fused together in quite satisfying compositions! Lazy Jam might be my favorite, though it’s really hard to choose…
There is a beautiful energy to the project – something subtle and joyful, at points I found myself grinning from ear to ear, bouncing along with the 808’s and bubbling synths. It honestly sounds like some kind of long-lost B Sides from Squarepusher after he took a couple doses of mushrooms and watched Saturday morning cartoons!
Impressive in scale and bold in execution, Lion Cuts is the latest full-length by multifaceted producer Tim Thornton (CDX, Tiger Village), brought to us by Doom Trip Records out of LA. Tight and diverse, like an expertly curated charcuterie platter, and it’s equally delicious!
CDX reaches into the massive pool of electronic history, swirling it around and emerging with an inspired and unique collection of tracks. At any moment you could pinpoint genres being mashed and merged – acid bass churning over chillhop beats, all mingling with massive synthwave atmospheres. Have no fear of over-complexity or pretentious un-listenability – Lion Cuts manages to be pleasantly easy to digest from start to finish. Even as CDX peppers in dissonance and experiments in structure and noise, it all serves to a larger experience of bubbly energy and sonic excitement.
Twenty Two II is one of my favorites, easily getting stuck in my head for hours at a time. Rose Gold Relationship Goals is another that really stays with me, the groove is so satisfying I want to hit repeat and keep the party going.
The record is available via Doom Trip Records digitally and on Cassette (Limit to 100 copies).
Spain’s Warm Up Recordings presents us with a nice dark EP of throbbing techno from Jeroen Search.
Presentism is an intense study of acid techno, with 4 tracks of unrelenting electronics. Pulsing with underground energy, Jeroen seamlessly blends deep ambience with the club atmosphere, forging a unique and dank sound that begs for repeated listens.
You can purchase both a digital version as well as a copy on wax (while available, only 2 left at the time of this posting) via the labels bandcamp page.
Struggling through hump-day?! Well give yourself a break with this dank re-release from Russian Techno Producer Kontext.
Acid Pasta EP was originally released February 21st, 2010, with some tracks being produced much earlier than that, however the project has aged quite well. Kontexts twisted vision of techno is robust on these 4 tracks, utilizing alien sounds and truly unique production on top of classic grooves.
‘Acid Pasta EP is not a brand new piece of work. It’s a best part of personal skill improvement I worked on at home studio in years 2005-2006. I wanted to find out if I could create something totally different from drum’n’bass and downtempo that I used to produce then. Something more about minimal 4×4 techno/house kinds of music.’ Kontext
Fresh from rohs! Records out of Germany (though, not fresh to the universe), originally released in 2015, Periferica is an experimental techno album by Tears Of Change.
Periferica is a deep, churning project with a brutal yet mellow urgency. The sound is a unique juxtaposition of throbbing kicks and buzzing bass, combined with some haunting atmospheres. What results is a satisfying blend of energetic acid and high-quality textured ambience. Some of my favorite parts of this project were the most dissonant, where the sounds seemed to be combating each-other within the track!
For a limited time you can order a Compact Disc of the Album, or download the digital files, via the rohs! Records Bandcamp.
