Untitled Album, by Sad Man

a0883135841_10

Experimental Electronic + Jazz musician SAD MAN presents us with an epic new release UNTITLED ALBUM, which dropped back at the beginning of May. This beefy 21 track epic is a true experiment in abstract electronics, with a heavy lean towards resonant glitches and deconstructed club sounds.

At times UNTITLED ALBUM steers into quite adventurous territories, adopting flavors from world music, IDM, glitch hop and more to create his own unique electronic flavor. The songs themselves are hearty meals, rarely dipping below 3 minutes in length, leaving plenty of time to explore sonic ideas and freely wander the landscape of sound.

SAD MAN music seems to lean heavily towards dissonant experimentation, with rhythms propelling the vibe forward at a steady tempo. Though the sounds used may not be stranger to club atmosphere, it is the way all the sounds are broken down – stripped to their essence, and repurposed in a way to tell an entirely different story. Grooves appear as quickly as they disappear – percussion being somewhat nebulous, sometimes held by some boom bap drums, other times being completely phased into crushed synths and chopped waveforms. A track can fly from footwork madness to lofi house vibes in a matter of moments, and yet it all works quite well, with SAD MAN never losing footing within each track.

On the whole, UNTITLED ALBUM is a damn good work of art. It’s a rewarding listen, the kind you enjoy time and time again, with and without headphones – at home, in the car, etc. Take it with you in life and see how it morphs the landscape around you – a premium vibe augmentation.

Really strong recommendation on this one – the best word I can use to describe the complete project is Therapeutic. Something about the nature of the sounds, the mystery of where each track leads, it all put me very much at ease. Even the sounds themselves – I often found myself feeling quite entranced, as if my mind was being massaged through the airwaves. Perhaps you will have the same experience, and I encourage you to give it a shot!

The album is available to stream and download via the artists Bandcamp page – as well as a Compact Disc edition (which I will likely pick up in the near future!). SAD MAN has a healthy discography on his bandcamp page too, and with a remix-album set to release tomorrow, anyone who enjoys ought to be excited…

Resistance Fatigue, by TAXXESS

a1164797396_10

Texas Producer TAXXESS dropped this dense industrial-cyberpunk project back in December – It’s packed full of harsh buzzing drones, big beats and bizarre sonic abnormalities. Even with the diverse palette of destroyed sounds, there is a beautiful rhythm to each track, encouraging you to get lost inside….

Ghost in the Machine Vol. 3

Lots of dank and dark tunes within the most recent Ghost in the Machine Broadcast. Nearly an hour of Indie/Electronic goodness, now streaming via Mixcloud.

Interstellar, by Lars Leonhard

a1163981903_10

One of my favorite Dub-Techno Producers Lars Leonhard has dropped a new project titled “Interstellar”. Not to be confused with the Hollywood blockbuster from a few years back, this “Interstellar” is deep, dark and delicious. 10 tracks of brilliantly sculpted techno tunes floating at a comfortable 120 bmp. I have always been impressed with Lars’ ability to blend darkness and melody to create unique atmospheres, and this album is no exception!

You can download the album via Bandcamp. You can also get nearly 20 of Lars’ albums bundled together at an insane discount, definitely something worth looking into if you find yourself enjoying this release.

Delicious new dubby-electronics from Etoka Records.

“Mysterious and puzzling sound structures entering unknown landscapes, surrounded by hidden paths and irregular shades.
The Artists are reflecting their inspirations by an old Japanese legend about spirits, called KODAMA, that lived in over hundred year old trees. Fascinated by wildness and beauty of nature, Pemë express their vision through their music where every composition reveals its own story.”

Acid Pasta EP, by Kontext

a0271752941_10

Struggling through hump-day?! Well give yourself a break with this dank re-release from Russian Techno Producer Kontext.

Acid Pasta EP was originally released February 21st, 2010, with some tracks being produced much earlier than that, however the project has aged quite well. Kontexts twisted vision of techno is robust on these 4 tracks, utilizing alien sounds and truly unique production on top of classic grooves.

‘Acid Pasta EP is not a brand new piece of work. It’s a best part of personal skill improvement I worked on at home studio in years 2005-2006. I wanted to find out if I could create something totally different from drum’n’bass and downtempo that I used to produce then. Something more about minimal 4×4 techno/house kinds of music.’ Kontext

Further tales from the refurbished studio.

After too many months, I rewired my studio and connected everything together, along with a few new toys. This is the first album in many months that takes advantage of the range of synths I have on offer.

The music on this album is completely improvised.
I press record and play notes into a long, slowly decaying loop and see where the music takes me.

Lumine, by bansheebeat

a1800798338_10

Had this one recently recommended, Lumine by bansheebeat. Released by Galaxy Swim Team, Lumine is an ambitious melting pot, packed full of inspirations from all corners of the globe. It’s an impressive listen from start to finish, 9 tracks altogether, ranging from relaxed melodies to pulsing dance arrangements. There is a little something for everyone in here, as bansheebeat fuses future funk styles with j-pop emotions he creates something quite unique and satisfying!

I personally loved this album from start to finish. Maybe it is my own love of things like Japanese culture, vaporwave and good electronics, but for other fans of the same they will find this project to be a well-crafted and enlightened listen.

You can download the album now via bandcamp, the CD’s are sold out but you can still pick up a tape for now!

Favorite Track: 3. Rainy Love

 released 07 July 2015

All tracks composed, arranged, produced, and mixed by bansheebeat
All tracks mastered by Noah Hafford, with consultation from bansheebeat, Mike Vallejo, and Calvin Hansen

Everything recorded and sequenced in my bedroom while watching endless episodes of The Eric Andre Show and Parks and Recreation, in and around Mike and Joy’s apartment, and from other various places around Tucson, AZ where working on an album is probably inappropriate.

All songs written by bansheebeat, except track 2, composed by bansheebeat and Ivy Hollivana, and track 5, composed by bansheebeat and Patrick Sovereign
