Thirteen Years, by MLDVR

a2192035652_10.jpg

Australian producer M L D V R returns to us with the follow-up to Four Months EP with part II of III – Thirteen Years. This round we find M L D V R further embracing longform composition, with each of the tracks hovering around 10 minutes, giving plenty of time for sonic exploration. Starting off with an acid house banger that sets the mood of a strange smoke filled warehouse, onto a spooky car ride through the deserted backroads, and ending with a 2am swim in a pixelated cyber lake. Enjoying the work of this producer more and more, extremely excited to hear what is in store for the final chapter – and of course still crossing my fingers for Tapes to be released eventually…

Atelier Elektro, by Ametrom

a1758081265_10.jpg

Thoughtful and melodic synthwave from Canadian producer Ametrom, Atelier Electro is an enjoyable electro-disco record overflowing with riffs and lush synth arps! The 10-tracks are peppered with just the right amount of vocals – leaving plenty of room for the instrumentals to breathe, while also giving the album some additional weight and emotion.

On the whole, it’s a very positive record – melodies tend to be uplifting in a cute and nostalgic way, with steady tempo beats driving the tracks forward. There are some retro vibes, especially with certain riffs and passages, Ametrom utilizes some interesting instruments and sounds throughout. You might hear a sudden groove with organs blasting, guitars plucking and beautiful vocals – you begin to feel like you’re listening to something straight out of the 60’s.

I was very impressed with the sounds on this one. Ametrom clearly has a firm grasp on his tools and knows how to craft an experience. If you’re a fan of cinematic sounds, synthwave or cyberpunk style, you should really enjoy this one. The songwriting is tight and the execution is satisfying.

...with my friends, by Reversed Reference

a1972198745_10

…with my friends is the latest Full-Length project from producer Reversed Reference – released at the beginning of last month, this one has floated through my airwaves quite a few times. It’s a sprawling collection of ideas – where as the name suggests we find RR collaborating with quite a few fellow artists. The result is a smorgasbord of styles and sounds, flourishing with post-vapor flavor, all very lush and delicious.

Looks like there are still some tapes available at the time this is published, get your hands on one before they’re gone!

SLIME?COMP. by Vacuum Noise Records

a2850338947_10

Dropped like a bowl of pudding at the fridge in the middle of the night – SLIME?COMP is the latest compilation construction from Vacuum Noise Records (masterminds behind ANYWAVE and much more). Mystery and anticipation swirled around this project for weeks, from the bizarre call for SLIMEPUNK submissions that raised eyebrows, to the shift towards slimeWAVE which raised more than eyebrows! Er, anyways I am probably a bit biased towards these compilations as I have contributed to both, but I really enjoy them both thoroughly. The sounds themselves are quite experimental of course, with such a nebulous slimy criteria who could expect anything else – resulting in a really interesting tracklist this time around – and a satisfying one at that.

Some personal favorites include tracks by doctorb, V ▲ P Y D, b l u e s c r e e n and Reversed Reference, but there is a plethora of jams here to enjoy. Oh and you’d already have this album in your library by now if you subscribed to VNR4LYF

W O R L S D 探査 by Marlowave2 0 9 9™

a2246408802_10

New sounds presented by the BOGUS // Collective team – WORLSD.com by Marlowave2099 is a long-playing epic of ambient vapor and mallsoft styles. Concepts of a lost and lonely virtual world swirl in the minds eye – logging on, creating an avatar, and floating directionless in the cybersea. Some really nice treatment of melodies and moods here – sometimes the soundtrack gets a bit spooky, but never overtly dark. Marlowave2099 has done a great job of constructing a world with these sounds…

Moving On, by Schulz Audio

a2557966203_10

Fresh and flourishing dub-techno sounds from Schulz Audio, brought to us by Kopoc Label out of Spain. The 4 track EP packs a subtle punch – chilled rhythms and mellow synths pluck here and there, maintaining a nice causal energy. It’s pretty lighthearted as well – not overwhelmingly melodic, but also not falling into the doom-dub pit. Kopoc always brings some nice sounds to the table, and with Moving On being available at name-your-own-price, it’s impossible not to recommend!

NAVI elite, by Δελφοί

a3814353153_10

Dropped at the end of last month via DMT Tapes – this debut full-length from Δελφοί brings some wonderful vibes to the table. Fuzzy and blissful vape concepts here, and some heady longforms at that! Generous treatment of the atmosphere makes this one really dense and robust. Some really nice grooves and melodies, with haunting mysterious voices guiding the tracks along… Great background listening, and rewarding when you pay attention!

Played, by Palavas

a0708387772_10

Beautiful and mellow sounds pour from this one, Played by french Novelist and Musician Palavas, presented to us by Wormhole World. Lush and expansive while remaining intimate, Played is quite the unique journey. With structure being cast aside and a big focus on mood, it’s all propelled forward by Palavas‘ vocals – which he uses quite creatively and beautifully – often behaving more like an instrument itself than words being sung, and I adore it. I actually found it to be a more blissful and ambient C. Duncan, a favorite artist of mine from the past few years, it was a pleasant surprise!!

The album deals with themes of hope and healing, the melancholy of existence – Palavas seems to effortlessly convey the complex emotions of helplessness and solitude. The generous use of strings really helps solidify the intention, with a beautiful acoustic palette being utilized, you can easily imagine floating through the sky enjoying a small cup of coffee on the edge of a cloud, watching the world pass below…

The album is available digitally as well as a nice looking Compact Disc – both at an incredibly reasonable price considering the content – Played being 14 tracks of thoughtfully crafted songs, if you’re looking for a great soundtrack for your summer porch chilling, look no further!
