The Glimmering Plane, by Field Lines Cartographer

Fresh and wonderful modular ambience from UK producer Field Lines Cartographer. The Glimmering Plane does exactly what it sets out to do – self described as “62 minutes of long-form electronic music intended to be an immersive, transportive experience” – FLC hits the nail on the head. By the time you are halfway through the listen, it’s easy to find oneself inside this fabled Glimmering Plane, looking casually out the window as the landscape unfolds below. Massive sweeping synths coat the tracks in ethereal joy, peppered with rhythmic melodies. Touching darkness but not bathing in it, there is a expert balance of mood and emotion, letting the listener fill in some gaps regarding expression and intent. A very solid long-player perfect for rainy Mondays….

Oscar Pray For Oscar The Dog, by Snekhoose

Released this past December via the wonderful Wormhole World Records – Oscar Pray For Oscar The Dog is a stellar collaborative experiment between Jonah Hebron (aka Mzungu, Cacero Lazo) and Rupert Spurrier. Coined as a blend of Folk and Drone, the duo plunges into weightless suspension with lush and luxurious soundscapes. Blending acoustic and electronic instruments, successfully blurring the boarders of both vibrations into something distinctly satisfying.

It’s worth mentioning this collaboration took place digitally across the globe, with producers living in different cities, trading files and ideas to build the sonic landscapes. I am always fascinated with these types of collaborations – this one specifically, with its patchwork meandering style, presents itself almost as a live-jam between the two artists, something that could easily be performed on the same stage, yet is being constructed over vast amounts of time and space.

No Ordinary Home, by James Murray

Headphone Commute is one of my favorite places to discover interesting new ambient music – much to my delight they have a new featured mix highlighting minimal sound label Home Normal to commemorate their 10th anniversary. Quite the achievement indeed, and worthy of celebration – much like the mix, which is packed full of blissful atmospheric soundscapes, masterfully curated for optimal relaxation and immersion.

Iniciação by Nacional Erudita

a2042467000_10

Deliciously lush and atmospheric new noise from Brazilian artist Nacional Erudita, brought to us by Infinite Sync Studios.

This Side A/Side B of sorts is warm and inviting. Tape sounds being utilized heavily to the point I felt as if I were in a duplication or processing facility – and I loved it. The therapeutic nature of the fuzzy analogue drones does well to build an atmosphere in less than 20 minutes of sonic storytelling. Ominous howls and scraping percussion dominate the first track, like some strange ceremony being dragged-along a few rooms down the hall. Track two is pure dense tape magic, packed with complex and satisfying subtleties.

Available digital only it seems! Head over to the bandcamp page to support! 🌿

HIGHER MIND THOUGHT IMPLANTATION by ░▒▓█₳§ᗐM̶R̳█▓▒░

HIGHER MIND THOUGHT IMPLANTATION is the latest release from ASVMR, brought to us by Berlin’s Engram Recordings – a thick 3-track exploration into psychedelic harsh fuzz territory.

Taking complete advantage of the labels eclectic and esoteric nature, ASVMR dives deep into the pool of sound for some sonic clam digging. Leading in with pulsing atmospheric percussion, only to be drenched with some seriously potent drone shredding. It’s actually quite an accessible harsh-noise EP – if you are new to the genre and just want to get your toes wet, this could be a fantastic place to start. Unusual Starter 3 // DMT-076, by SOUTH:!:AST CO ‘ J~sr.

a4018773955_10.jpg

With DMT Tapes FL getting some well deserved buzz recently, I have decided to take to the archives and explore the backlog a bit. Simply poking around my bandcamp collection after picking up the discography has always resulted in some wonderful listens and gems worthy of visiting again… So I have decided to dedicate some listening time to the impressive back catalog!

I will begin documenting these highlights on the blog – starting with the best starter, the Unusual Starter 3! Released March 23rd, 2015 – Unusual Starter 3 is described on the Bandcamp Page with few details – Another for the EP project of Floridamphetamine, SOUTH:!:AST CO ‘ J~sr. gives a clue to the creator and an opportunity to explore deeper projects.

The 3 tracks are incredibly lush and fuzzy, saturated and bizarre metallic frequencies and washed-out synths paint a vivid atmosphere. The overall style is thickly psychedelic, like a true DMT trip at 10:30 AM. The weight of the release rests on the first track, with its ominous and cavernous melody dripping around you. Honey Syrup functions well as a sweeping interlude before a breezy and mysterious outro…

Dimensional Shift, by Andrew Mouge

Dimensional Shift is a wonderful new long-playing project by Andrew Mouge (ex. Digital Image Plus LTD), released via Vivarium Recordings. Clocking nearly an hour in length, this album is powerful and vast, churning with themes of hope the future, big and thoughtful.

I got a particularly strong adventure vibe from some of the tracks, like Land of Blue Roses, making me feel like I am wandering some dreamlike landscape, attempting to solve inventory object puzzles!

The tracks bounce between post-vaporwave and lush ambient, touches of mallsoft and drone give the project some added depth as well. I often use the word satisfying to describe sounds that make me feel complete, or that help calm the turbulent atmosphere around me – and Dimensional Shift does all of that. Befitting of the name, I feel myself phasing in between dimensions, leaving my worries behind in some faraway place…

XO Archives (Japan) presents us with this lovely split-EP from Pansori and TABQURIA. Each producer providing around 10 minutes of delicious harsh sounds – buzzing and throbbing all over the sonic landscape with energy and excitement. Thick and satisfying distortion takes center stage in this one as the two go head to head, trading riffs and samples back and forth in a noisy dance of fate!!

The Pink e.p. has already arrived as well….

Seek Not Your Fortune, by Nonconnah

a0397258253_10

Memphis Dronegaze outfit Nonconnah are back to bless us with a small selection of B-Sides, or “Outtakes” as they cinematically refer to them, which were recorded between 2015-2018.

The resulting collection is a subtle and blissful gathering of sounds – with a general uplifting vibe to the work. As always there is a selection of other musicians enlisted to fill-out the sonic landscape, though most of the tracks seem to be produced by the core unit. Overall this one is quite nice, a relaxing little listen, and a pleasant surprise to see pop up in my feed today! Do yourself a favor and give it a spin – you can name your own price for the download via the artists Bandcamp page…
