Where are the shopping malls of tomorrow? Perhaps they hibernate in memory. But could we dream a plaza of the future? These tracks presented in ‘Galleria Reveries’ imagine a brave new world—built on the bones and dust of fallen empires.

Through the Portal, by Pulse Emitter

a1648273852_10

Denmark Netlabel Phinery recently put out a slew of tapes simultaneously for December, and among the brilliant batch was this release “Through the Portal” by Pulse Emitter.

This meditative electronic project is satisfying and melodic. 8 tracks fronted by synth chimes and drones, accompanied by hollow percussion and pulsing bass tones. Some tracks have more traditional composition, with others venturing into much more experimental territory. All in all its a great listen from start to finish, and it probably sounds even better on Cassette!

You can purchase the Digital Album/Cassette via Phinery’s Bandcamp. Also available is a fantastic December Tape bundle, this tape plus 4 others for only $25 bucks!

There is a constant struggle between the organic and inorganic aspects of our personal nature—an effort aided by the drive to define our own physical boundaries through intangible experiences and ephemeral thoughts. But for Portland-based musician Daryl Groetsch—who records curiously reassuring and intricate synthesizer music as Pulse Emitter—this determination isn’t given credence by volume or density but by an emotional center around which everything else revolves. He peers deeply into our relationship with our environment and positions himself as a mediator of sorts between the fierce wilds of our instincts and the calming constancy of nature. He possesses a particular fascination with the hold that the environment and memory hold over people and discovers mesmerizing ways in which to link each influence to certain emotions.

Scattered across the tracks of his latest release, “Through the Portal,” Groetsch maintains an intimate connection with both his audience and their perceptions of his freewheeling rhythmic insight. Over the course of eight songs, he applies his new age prudence to determine whether individuals have an innate need for natural connections, or whether we’re simply a collection of pinging neurons in the service of a dispassionate body. He surmises that there could be a case made for either reality, but he’s certainly offering us evidence to support the former supposition. Imbued with glacial synth melodies, found sound maneuverings and a mischievous sense of imagination, “Through the Portal” finds Groetsch supplanting all doubts with one of the most beautiful and electronically pastoral releases you’re likely to hear this year.

June Apple & Amazing Grace, by Marcus Eads

a1542244858_10

As a long-time fan of Marcus Eads‘ work, it’s always nice to see something new pop up on his bandcamp! This time we’ve got a little EP featuring two tunes performed on Dulcimer, June Apple & Amazing Grace. Surely the title of the latter is instantly more recognizable, but Marcus’ version in this take is blissfully slow, to the point where the beat and tempo disappear completely, leaving the track feeling more like avant-poetry than anything! Each track has a delicious warm quality, being recorded both indoors and outdoors. You can grab this along with a ton of other goodies via Bandcamp!

Melodyheart, by Xspance

a2992956150_10.jpg

Melodyheart by Xspance is a collection of soaring and majestic beats, brought to us by Section Records. The 12 tracks meander through chillout vibes and downtempo rhythms at a relaxing pace, utilizing galactic soundscapes as a backdrop to the whole show. As the title suggests, there is a good deal of emotion in each of the tracks, with beautiful synths hinting towards hope and melancholy. The album is available to download digitally via the labels Bandcamp page.

‘Melodyheart’ is the latest engaging sensory experience from the musical mind of Xspance, whose journey-esque structures and evolving arrangements lend a very visual, filmic element to his music, as each track becomes a scene in a play, slowly revealing a bigger picture. ‘Melodyheart’ is a perfect collection of chilled ambient tracks, each designed to melt into each other. It’s uplifting melody driven music that will warm your heart and touch your soul, hence the title of the album. Just close your eyes and dream…

when they benefit [NWOB-1], by echochamber

a0356825046_10

echochambers latest release is part of the label New Worlds latest cassette-tape-box-set project dropping in a few days; when they benefit is an excellent long-player of stellar beats and melodies. Blurring the line between hip-hop beat mentality and vaporwave sonics, echochamber masterfully crafts these 20 tracks into something equally addicting and satisfying. I particularly enjoy his choice of synth tones and overall mixing, all with a subtle nostalgic sci-fi tone.

You can pick up the album digitally today for only a buck! Or you can wait until the 7th when this tape along with 4 others will be available in a limited edition box-set from the label.

Indigo / Expanse, by 36

a1175986707_10

I am a long-time fan of UK Ambient Producer 36, I am also a huge fan of melodic ambient, soft techno and anything in between. Therefore, 36’s latest release INDIGO/EXPANSE is absolutely perfect for me. As the artist mentions below in his blurb, the two tracks contained are a bit more uptempo than the rest of his discography, however I feel like it fits perfectly with the blissful melodic ambience of this particular release. Both tracks tackle dub-techno with finesse and character, evoking galactic visions of vast glowing space. And to top it all of, it’s a gift from the artist, you can pick up this project at your chosen price via Bandcamp!

“These tracks were recorded early 2016, immediately after I finished The Infinity Room. They were originally going to be pressed on a limited 12″ white label, but due to various reasons, I never got around to releasing it. Some of you may have heard them in my recent mixlr broadcasts. They’re a lot more uptempo than my usual tracks and because they’re stylistically quite different to what I usually go for, they never quite found a place elsewhere. I like them a lot though and rather than see them go to waste, I’ve decided to upload them here as a digital download, exclusive to my Bandcamp page. It’s a small thank-you to fans old and new, who have supported my music over the years. I’ve set it as pay what you want, but feel free to enter zero if you want to download it for free. Anything you do pay will go towards funding future vinyl releases. Thanks and I hope you enjoy them!” – 36

Instinct, by Organit

a3092400488_10

Released October 6th, 2016, INSTINCT is a new 3-track project from Tamás Olejnikv moniker, Organit. What we find is deep and dark dub within, with flavors of old school dubstep and dub techno drizzled here and there. Condor is a great opening track, perfectly riding the line between calm melody and haunting dissonance. Tribe follows with a more brisk pace and staccato structure, evoking the feeling of running through a dense jungle in the pitch black night. The third and final track, Rite, is just as spooky as it is satisfying, with a brilliant bassline leading the ritual, the whole track swirls into an urgent yet relaxed composition.

You can grab this EP along with others at the artists Bandcamp page.

HV040 Desolate Horizons – I Thought I’d Never Find You

“I Thought I’d Never Find You” was recorded from December 2014 to February 2015 originally for the split with ‘The Last Before Falling’ but unfortunately, it has never been officially released. And now I decided to rewrite one track called “I Stood There Calling Out Your Name” to finally give a life to this release.

“I Thought I’d Never Find You” is inspired by my own dreams and experiences obtained in them. To some extent, this is quite a sad story, but this story has a happy ending.

This is an archival recording. Thank you for listening

Desolate Horizons is a dronegaze/ambient/shoegaze one-man project from Russia. Side-project of C. Horizon, the only member of thehappymask.
