Oh would you look at that face! How could you deny such blissful pleasure – sure pure joy, a joy you will obviously find after indulging in this lovely little beat tape by NANCY. Brought to us by Liebermann & Schwartz, a mysterious new imprint – π•π–—π–”π–”π–π–‘π–žπ–“ π•²π–†π–—π–‰π–Šπ–“π–˜ is a delicious little 7 track tape, packed with smooth samples and dusty chops. It’s pretty much been on rotation for me this past week. Premium piano riffs float effortlessly above boom bap percussion – doing justice to the proclaimed brooklyn theme, evoking feelings of rainy streets and kebab meats….

Subtle slaps and satisfying claps – premium chilled out beatstrumentals wait for you inside this little unassuming release from producerΒ SUNFLOWER. These 5 tracks demonstrate finesse with chops and drums, flourishing and swinging in all the right ways. With a touch of boom-bap and jazzhop flavors, this one is destined to be on repeat for a while…

Tomorrow Entertainment Records has been really hitting my sweet spot with their past few releases, and their most recent album of wonders is no exception! 10 tracks of lush vocal-heavy vaporwave with a fuzzy clarity. Tasty and thoughtful chopping and warping make this one an interesting listen, quite rewarding as the tracks wander onward….

FRESH BATCH – June 10th 2019

ET_FreshBatch_June10_2019

Hello music lovers! It’s time for another FRESH BATCH of awesome underground music!

This week has proven to be ULTRA underground – with quite a few records and projects being “Self Released”. Seeing this trend got me thinking to myself – what really is the purpose of a record label these days? Certainly the role has changed in the past years and decades, leading many independent producers to push releases without any sort of Label backing. The self-release of projects is DIY to the core – and even if there isn’t a stated label presence, many of these releases are propelled forward by word of mouth and pure sonic interest.

So what does all this mean? What is the takeaway!? NOTHIN! Just a bunch of great music, so strap in and listen up folks, there’s gold in them-there hills!

I-95, by I-95 Exit-98- Santee, South Carolina USA

Dropped last November on Tomorrow Entertainment Records – 1-95 is an interesting little vapor study. It’s a fantastic project, dense with fuzzy vibes leaking through the speakers. Perfect soundtrack for a hazy road trip up the coast…

Really found myself getting lost in this one, and coming back to it again and again. Part of it is the artwork – I am forever attracted to top-down photography of landscapes, map-style you might say – even better when roads/highways are involved (for whatever reason) It obviously suits the release well, but it also has a unique aura, likely urged on by the color palette. Something about it just draws me in, again and again.

Seek Not Your Fortune, by Nonconnah

Memphis Dronegaze outfit Nonconnah are back to bless us with a small selection of B-Sides, or “Outtakes” as they cinematically refer to them, which were recorded between 2015-2018.

The resulting collection is a subtle and blissful gathering of sounds – with a general uplifting vibe to the work. As always there is a selection of other musicians enlisted to fill-out the sonic landscape, though most of the tracks seem to be produced by the core unit. Overall this one is quite nice, a relaxing little listen, and a pleasant surprise to see pop up in my feed today! Do yourself a favor and give it a spin – you can name your own price for the download via the artists Bandcamp page…

Dead Roses, Digged Up Zombies, Broken Pieces Of Diamonds, Live Cats by Nonconnah

Nonconnah – the continuing sonic explorations of dynamic duo Denny Wilkerson Corsa and Zachary Corsa – together with their enlisted army of experimental musicians – presents us with an incredible full-length project “Dead Roses, Digged Up Zombies, Broken Pieces of Diamonds, Live Cats” and boy is it a doozy!!

Rocking a hefty 21-track playlist, nonconnah proves yet again that this team is hardly short on ideas and inspiration, even with a wake of outstanding previous releases and projects (I have long been a fan of Lost Trail) it manages to be something special.

From the word go – the album has a very subtle but powerful energy. Tracks like Path Of Totality/Rapture DrugsΒ or Half-Built Future HomesΒ introduce lush and fuzzy psychedelic drones, lending beautiful contrast to the rounded beauty of more ambient selections like Treading Unhallowed Ground.

During my listens found it easy to imagine myself wandering a mysterious countryside – with each track being a spontaneous road to turn down – a new adventure to experience. Discovering hidden lakes, abandoned factories, forgotten occult churches and pow-wows of anthropomorphic farm machinery.

Personal favorite track has got to be Ceiling To Ceiling Transmission AntennaΒ – but chances are that is on account of my own undying love for the tone of a Clarinet – lending this track such a pure and wholesome vibe.

With over 20 tracks to tell the tale, Nonconnah really deliver with this full length – providing a listen that is truly rewarding and only improves on repeat πŸ‘
